Random Episode Recommendation #1

Today's random episode recommendation is one of my favorite Star Trek episodes: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Season 1 Episode 19 "Duet" A little context for those who have never seen Star Trek, then  I will recommend you watch the episode and finally I will give some of my thoughts on this great piece of fiction. This series takes place on a space station and it follows the adventures of the crew.  Many consider it the best Trek series, myself included.  Sure it’s from the 90s and some episodes look it, especially the first 2-3 seasons, but it’s my favorite due to its great characters and great storytelling, mostly filled with thought-provoking stories and moral dilemmas, as well as compelling story arcs and epic space battles. We have Major Kira Nerys from the planet Bajor.  Her people just recently endured the past 50 years of oppression, slavery and deaths by another alien race, the Cardassians.  The occupation from this oppressive race recently end...

Board Game Battle 1: Tiny Epic Dinosaurs

Sooo my wife wasn't feeling too well so she was not able to take me on.  Although she isn't much of a gamer, she is really good.  Beats me more than I'd like to admit.  So I went up against the AI bot in the game.  And when I play solo, I like to give the AI a name of a villain, because I am, naturally, the good guy.  I usually go with the name of Khan . Many wonder how you can play a board game by yourself, that that’s crazy. And sad. But it’s so much fun! And you definitely can if the designers of the game have included it. And Mr. Almes designed this game to be able to be played that way by Khan using his very own deck of cards. So basically, I take a turn, I then turn over a card for Khan and that card will basically simulate a real player by taking over a spot on the board that will make it harder or impossible for me to go there. Let's see how the first round went. I hope this does not bore anyone!  It was definitely fun to play. All I have to do is f...

"It's... it's a dinosaur."

Tonight's entertainment is a little board game called Tiny Epic Dinosaurs .  This is a 1-4 player game, designed by Scott Almes and published by Gamelyn Games in 2020.  It's a small game, but packs a punch. How to win: By having the most points by the end of 6 rounds. How to gain points: By fulfilling contracts. 👈A contract will contain 3 specific dinosaurs and if you are able to obtain these specific dinosaurs, you can fulfill the contract and get the points listed on the card. How to get dinos: You have at least 4 actions per round that you can use to get them.  To take your action, you move your little worker (you have 4) to a spot of your choice on the board, then you simply do that action.  Here is an example of some actions you can take.👉 But the challenge is that you have to think of how you are using your actions.  You see there are 19 different actions you can choose from.  But other than dinosaurs, you also need to obtain fences and food for ...

"That's U4, Mr. Bennish, not U2."

So tonight's adventure took to me to parallel worlds in the classic 90’s sci-fi show: Sliders. When this show first aired in 1995, I was sooo into it.  I was 14 years old and just loved the idea of the show.  I couldn't wait for Friday nights!  But whenever I watch this series now, I still get excited, but sad at the same time.  The first 2 seasons of this 5 season show is great.  The third season has some good episodes, but that's where the quality of the show went down the toilet. Firstly, what is the show about?  Here, watch the trailer! A brilliant college student, Quinn, invents a machine that opens up a wormhole where one can 'slide' to an alternate reality.  His companions include Professor Arturo, Wade and Rembrandt.  In their test run of this invention, they essentially get lost and the show is about them trying to find their way back home.  And so the worlds they visit are either somewhat different than their world or completely dif...

What is this, yo?

Hello there. I am starting this new blog to rant about my adventures on my downtime, either through movies, TV, books, comic books and board games. I may be starting to watch a TV show, both new shows for me and ones that I've seen a million times (not actually a million). Same thing with movies. I haven't read a lot of books, but I have a pretty big collection of Star Wars and Star Trek books plus a few other genres.  I have some comics, graphic novels and omnibuses that I will also cover.  And I love board games. Some of my favorites include Viticulture, Brass: Birmingham and Anachrony (oh my goodness, Anachrony). I am married to the most wonderful wife, no children but many pets, I have a 9-5 job, I am taking online courses to get a degree, and I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses.  So there is a lot on my plate, but I'd like to see how this goes. Could be fun. So join me on my journey as I embark on many adventures in my downtime. Engage. | random quote: "...This co...
